I don't want to be impolite, but I started the thread as a completely innocuous conversation starter about all the cool useful plugs we have available to us, either for free or bundled with Reaper. I do think the apparent loudness achieved If you love your music, don't squash it. My votes go to Elephant and daBomb(Delaydots).ĭynamics I prefer analog as the artifacts I use limiters and clippers mostly for game audio and controlling unwieldy signals if a compressor won't do the job. Making use of limiters has to be a conscious choice for good reason.Ĭontrol is the primary use for limiters, just like Pipe said. If you're just doing it to follow a trend, you're fucking yourself. How about not using a limiter for increasing the loudness (find the volume knob), but only for control and effect. What are you all using these days for your limiting needs? :) But for controlling things and getting the RMS level up a tad, I have to say I'm really impressed with the free plugs I've been working with and EventHorizon in particular. I'm not interested in taking part in the Loudness Wars, so I'm not pushing things to the gills and I can't really comment on any limiter's usefulness for that purpose. Of course I'm working with free stuff or bundled stuff so I'm talking mostly about them as a frame of reference. I was using either the Yohng Limiter or the Antress one until I really started checking out the bundled Reaper stuff in more detail, and I have to say I think EventHorizon (original and V2) are probably the most transparent limiters I've heard yet. I've also messed with some of the DigitalFishPhones stuff, some of the Breeboart (sp?) plugs, the Pocket Limiter, the Volcano Maximizer, and of course all the bundled stuff in Reaper. I really like the Yohng limiter (which I believe is a W2 clone) and the Antress Modern Limiter. Thus far, I've gotten my hands on a couple dozen and I've tried them all out, but I'm still learning all of them and what they're good at. I've been messing around with a bunch of different plugs trying to find the ones I like most, and there's a lot of limiters out there to choose from.
